A mother and her son from Thane district, Maharashtra, are facing legal action for allegedly defrauding a contractor out of Rs 6 lakh in a bogus land transaction, police reported on Monday.

The Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police identified the accused as Meena Narendra Mhatre and her son Manish. They allegedly approached the victim with an offer to sell a portion of their ancestral land in July 2018.

Over seven years, the duo collected Rs 6 lakh in cash and cheques, promishing to execute a sale deed for a Rs 7 lakh plot in Bhayandar. However, it was discovered that the plot had already been transferred via a relinquishment deed to a relative. As a result, an FIR has been lodged under sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, with ongoing investigations.
