Five associates of the controversial cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza are facing recovery notices exceeding Rs 1.25 crore for alleged power theft operations at e-charging stations. According to officials on Monday, the accused operated illegally until a joint raid exposed their activities last week in the Baan Khana area.

This is not the first occurrence, as a similar raid about a year ago uncovered more unauthorized e-charging centers run by the same individuals. Fresh investigations have led to recovery certificates amounting to over Rs 1.25 crore being issued, with authorities ordering stringent recovery actions.

Authorities have been aggressive in their crackdown, including demolition of illegal structures and arrests related to recent violent clashes. In January 2024, another raid uncovered illegal e-charging centers operated by these individuals using stolen electricity. As a result, the Bareilly Development Authority demolished a banquet hall owned by Nafees, an aide to Raza Khan, citing illegal construction.
