Supreme Court Declines Telangana Quota Plea

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a challenge against the Telangana government's decision to allocate 42% reservation to Backward Classes in local bodies. The petitioner was advised to pursue the matter in the high court.

Filed under Article 32 for fundamental rights protection, the plea argued that the provision violated the court-imposed 50% reservation ceiling by increasing reservations to 67%.

Despite the petitioner's concerns, a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta indicated that the issue should be initially addressed in the high court, leading to the withdrawal of the plea with permission to refile there.
