Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Monday, asserted that the floods devastating North Bengal were due to water descending from Bhutan. She has demanded compensation from the Himalayan nation.
During her visit to Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district, the CM highlighted the losses caused by waters flowing through Bhutanese rivers. Banerjee reiterated her call for an Indo-Bhutan Joint River Commission and expressed frustration over the Central government's lack of financial support.
As rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue, Banerjee will oversee operations in the flood-ravaged areas, aiming to draw attention to the significant damage impacting local communities, with numerous lives lost and widespread displacement reported.
