Amidst lingering concerns about the Fitzroy River's suitability for the 2032 Olympic rowing events, Brisbane organizers are unwavering in their decision. The river, notorious for its strong tides and crocodile habitats, has received mixed reactions since its proposal.
Olympic rowing champion Drew Ginn highlighted potential disadvantages for athletes due to the river's currents. Despite this, Olympic Minister Tim Mander confirmed no alternative venues are under consideration. Meanwhile, Brisbane's northern council suggested Moreton Bay as a possible replacement location.
The International Rowing Federation (World Rowing) is set to assess the Fitzroy River to evaluate its viability for the events, with findings expected by mid-year. However, Mander remains optimistic, stating no significant concerns have arisen from initial assessments.
