At least two Palestinians were killed by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to health officials. Separate incidents occurred as fighters from Hamas engaged with a militia backed by Israel's support, witnesses reported.
Medics confirmed one man was killed in an Israeli airstrike at the Bureij camp in central Gaza, while another strike claimed a life and injured others in Gaza City. These fatalities add to the violence undermining a ceasefire brokered by the U.S., which was signed in October following two years of intense conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Efforts to implement parts of the ceasefire, such as the disarmament of Hamas and withdrawal of Israeli forces, have made little headway. The ceasefire has left Israeli troops controlling the majority of Gaza, with Hamas maintaining the coastal strip that remains. Since the ceasefire took effect, local medics report over 750 Palestinian deaths. Continuous exchanges of blame complicate efforts for peace, as Hamas and Israel accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreements.
