In a tense confrontation at Thoubal, Manipur's security forces reportedly opened fire on a mob near Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh's event, injuring one individual. The group, wielding stones and catapults, posed a significant threat to public safety and event dignitaries, prompting officers to discharge minimal force initially.
As the situation escalated, controlled firing became necessary, adhering to established protocols, police stated. The injured, identified as Elangbam Nandbir Singh, is a Village Defence Force member. Authorities swiftly contained the incident, emphasizing safety and public order.
The Chief Minister addressed the event, expressing surprise at the opposition in Thoubal despite previous peaceful visits elsewhere. He assured that the administration is dedicated to improving governance, opening a new Block Development Office to enhance local administration.
