Britain Bolsters Border Security with New Franco-British Deal

Britain has announced a substantial investment of up to 660 million pounds toward enhancing border security in collaboration with France. The new three-year agreement focuses on curbing illegal migrant crossings of the Channel, with a significant portion of the funds conditioned on achieving results.

Around 41,000 individuals made the perilous journey across the Channel in small boats in 2025, close to the record numbers of 2022. The deal includes substantial funding of about 500 million pounds to enhance enforcement on the northern French beaches, deploying nearly 1,100 personnel from various agencies.

The agreement also includes expanded maritime surveillance with drones and helicopters along with increased intelligence operations. The British government credits its joint efforts with France for preventing over 42,000 crossings since 2024.
