In a significant development, Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, has been arrested by the Punjab Police following the expiration of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). This decisive action took place at Dibrugarh Central Jail in connection with the high-profile 2023 Ajnala police station attack case.
Amritpal Singh, who also serves as an Independent MP from Khadoor Sahib, was taken into custody after his NSA detention concluded at midnight on Wednesday. Subsequently, he was moved to the Dibrugarh Police Station under tight security to facilitate a two-day remand for questioning regarding the Ajnala incident.
According to authorities, Amritpal Singh's involvement in the storming of the Ajnala police station has been under scrutiny. With numerous charges already framed against him and 41 others, Singh's role as the prime accused is central to the case. The trial will be conducted via video conferencing, ensuring Singh's continued lodging at Dibrugarh Jail.
