On Friday, Left parties, supported by student organizations including the Jawaharlal Nehru University students' union (JNUSU), staged a joint protest at Jantar Mantar in response to what they describe as escalating labor unrest across Delhi-NCR industrial areas.
The protest, organized by multiple Communist factions such as the Marxist, CPI, CPI (ML), Revolutionary Socialist Party, Forward Bloc, and the Communist Ghadar Party of India (CGPI), saw participation from workers and labor leaders from Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi. A memorandum addressed to the prime minister and other officials was submitted, spotlighting issues like non-payment of minimum wages and violations of labor laws.
Left leaders, including CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali, criticized the treatment of workers, alleging a systematic denial of rights. They condemned recent arrests of labor activists in Noida and the use of force against protests. The memorandum demanded the release of arrested labor leaders, strict enforcement of wage laws, and increased governmental accountability in response to workers' grievances.
