Diplomatic Ties Strengthened: Russia-North Korea Union Commemorates Fallen Troops

In a display of strengthened diplomatic ties, Vyacheslav Volodin, Russia's State Duma Chairman, arrived in Pyongyang on Saturday. His visit was for the memorial ceremony honoring North Korean troops who perished in the Ukraine conflict, as reported by North Korean state media, KCNA.

Jo Yong Won, the chairman of the Standing Committee of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly, acknowledged Russia's high-level delegation at the event as a symbol of gratitude and support. According to KCNA, Volodin expressed Russia's appreciation to Kim Jong Un for sending soldiers to support Russian forces in the Kursk region.

Discussions between the leaders emphasized the successful implementation of agreements within the Russia-North Korea treaty, solidified during President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang in 2024. This treaty, formed alongside June 2024 discussions between Kim and Putin, includes a mutual defense pact, showcasing the rapid progression of their diplomatic and military connection.
