Goa's Private Forests Report to be Finalized by May 30

Goa's Forest Minister, Vishwajit Rane, announced that the government plans to finalize the factual report on private forest areas in the state by May 30. This report is expected to be submitted to the National Green Tribunal, where the issue of demarcation of these lands is currently pending.

These areas, privately owned but classified as forests by the government, have been subject to scrutiny. Minister Rane emphasized the need for a thorough assessment to address past errors that have affected landowners. A committee of forest officials will submit a final report, ensuring no room for future manipulation.

Rane stated that survey numbers will be advertised in newspapers, and hearings will be conducted for landowners concerned over their plots being marked as private forests. He stressed there would be no additions to current private forest areas unless verified, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
