A local man has been arrested in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, after allegedly discharging a firearm in a celebratory manner during a sacred event. The arrest follows the circulation of a viral video on social media depicting the act, prompting police investigation.
The incident occurred on April 24 in Jajouli village during a 'janeu' ceremony organized for the accused's son. Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat stated that the accused, identified as Gulab Chand, had fired shots in the air using a licensed 12-bore gun.
Police seized the weapon along with two used and 14 live cartridges. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at the Paschim Sharira police station. The accused was taken into custody on Sunday, with further legal actions in progress.
