Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday held a high-level meeting with officials to review border vigilance and development in Mizoram's Siaha district, an official statement said. The virtual session was attended by Siaha Deputy Commissioner VL Hruaizela Khiangte, various heads of offices, and officials from the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) from the DC's mini conference hall in Siaha. During the meeting, Kumar stressed the vital importance of seamless coordination between Assam Rifles, state police, district administration, and village councils. Khiangte presented a brief overview of the district's current status, while Siaha Superintendent of Police (SP) briefed the minister on the prevailing law and order situation, it said. The SP informed the Union minister that a strict vigil is being maintained against illegal cross-border activities, specifically targeting the trafficking of drugs and arms, within the broader framework of national security. Departmental officials apprised the minister on the ongoing development initiatives and flagged key administrative and logistical challenges, the statement said. Kumar, who arrived in Aizawl on Monday on a two-day visit, also held a meeting with important officials and security forces in Aizawl on Monday to review border security and development initiatives in the state. During the Monday meeting, Mizoram Home Secretary David Lalthantluanga and Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare department Secretary Ramdinliani outlined the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, highlighting key achievements while addressing the logistical hurdles and remedial measures required for success. Representatives from various other departments also detailed their specific initiatives and resource requirements. In response, the Union minister advised officials to submit comprehensive reports, assuring them of prompt follow-up action from the Centre. The DIGs of BSF and Assam Rifles, who attended the meeting, presented reports on border security management along Mizoram's international borders(Myanmar and Bangladesh), issues relating to border fencing and measures for the development of border villages under the Vibrant Villages Programme. Mizoram shares a 510-km-long international border with Myanmar in the east and 318 km with Bangladesh in the west.
