Union minister B L Verma on Tuesday said welfare initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the National Food Security Act are making tangible improvements in the lives of people in Arunachal Pradesh. Describing the northeastern state as ''jannat'' (heaven), Verma said targeted funding under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) is aimed at balancing infrastructure growth with preservation of the region's natural and cultural heritage, an official release said. ''Schemes such as PM-DevINE are designed to ensure that development in the northeast is both sustainable and sensitive to local ecosystems,'' the minister said. During his visit to Ziro Valley in Lower Subansiri district, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, undertook an on-ground assessment of various central government schemes, the release said. At Pai Gate, he inspected houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), reviewed the progress of the 'Housing for All' mission and interacted with residents. He later visited a fair price shop at Hong village, where he examined the functioning of the public distribution system and evaluated the delivery of subsidised food grains to eligible households, the release said.
