Chhattisgarh CM Sai launches app to link workers with jobs, welfare schemes

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday launched a mobile application aimed at providing workers with a digital platform to access employment opportunities and government services from home. The app, 'e-Shram Saathi', was launched during a review meeting of the labour department chaired by the CM at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, an official statement said. In the meeting, Sai instructed officials to carry out surprise inspections of industrial units using technology to ensure workers' safety and rights, it said. The actual impact of welfare schemes would be visible only when benefits reach the last mile and are effectively implemented at the grassroots level, the release quoted the CM as saying in the meeting. He directed officials to ensure that field staff work with commitment to deliver benefits to workers. The CM affirmed several labour-centric initiatives have been undertaken in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the implementation of four new labour codes, and directed officials to ensure their effective execution so that workers have a safe, secure, and dignified work environment. Sai emphasised the labour department plays a crucial role in bringing positive change in workers' lives and highlighted the need for both effective implementation of schemes and stricter monitoring of workplaces. During the review, detailed discussions were held on the functioning of the labour department, labour commissioner organisation, industrial health and safety mechanisms, and the activities of various boards. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening district-level labour offices and conducting regular training programmes to improve awareness and access to welfare schemes, said the statement. On the occasion, Sai launched the ''e-Shram Saathi'' mobile application with the objective of making employment-related information easily accessible to workers from their homes, it said. According to officials, more than 33.14 lakh workers have been registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board since September 2008. The board currently runs 26 schemes covering 60 categories of workers. Under the Labour Welfare Board, 14 schemes have been implemented with a budget provision of Rs 5.21 crore for 2025-26, the statement informed. The state has in recent months witnessed several major industrial accidents. On April 14, 25 workers were killed in an explosion at a Vedanta Ltd power plant in Sakti district. On January 22, six workers died and five others were injured following a blast at a steel plant in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district.
