Comparatively, Puducherry marked the highest turnout among third gender electors at 91.81% during recent assembly elections. Across other states such as Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Kerala, participation varied, underscoring a broader spectrum of electoral engagement.
Despite an increase in voter enrollment in the 'third gender' category for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, turnout significantly lagged at only 27%. Former chief election commissioner, Navin Chawla, champions the policy permitting third gender individuals to register as voters under the 'Others' category, a practice now standardized by the Election Commission.
