Supreme Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to Pawan Khera

In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera. The bail comes in the wake of allegations made by Khera concerning Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, accused of possessing multiple passports and undisclosed foreign properties.

The order, issued by a bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar, provides Khera with protection from arrest, subject to certain conditions. These require him to comply with investigation procedures and restrict his movement outside the country without court approval.

The Supreme Court criticized the previous order by the Gauhati High Court, highlighting a lack of proper material consideration. The case has seen several legal twists, including a stay on a transit anticipatory bail granted earlier by Telangana High Court.
