Showdown at the Polls: Former AAP Leaders Summoned in Model Code Violation Case

The special MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's district has issued summons to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas along with former Delhi ministers Satyendar Jain and Somnath Bharti. The summons relate to alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, officials disclosed on Friday.

Special Magistrate Shubham Verma took cognizance of the matter, directing the accused to personally appear before the court on May 15. The allegations stem from an incident on May 6, 2014, when Vishwas, contesting from Amethi, reportedly stayed in the constituency with supporters against Election Commission rules.

Despite orders from then-station house officer Mohammad Hameed to vacate, as they weren't registered voters, Vishwas and his cohort allegedly remained, resulting in a case registered by police. Previously heard by the additional chief judicial magistrate, the case now advances to the MP-MLA court, with a crucial hearing set for May 15.
