Police have arrested a man almost 25 years after he allegedly killed his wife in Edachery. The suspect, Hameed, had been evading capture since reportedly murdering his wife, Jameela, in September 2001. Authorities state that Hameed allegedly strangled and hit Jameela on the head, resulting in her death.
After realizing the investigation was closing in on him, Hameed went into hiding. Despite extensive searches across Kerala and other states, he remained at large. Recently, the case was reopened as part of an initiative to resolve long-standing cases.
Investigators circulated Hameed's photos statewide and monitored his relatives' phone records. A tip led them to Adhur in Kasaragod district, where Hameed was found working as a fish vendor. Assisted by the Kasaragod police, they arrested him and recorded the arrest at the Edachery police station.
