Allegations of corruption in Kerala's management of the Maniyar hydroelectric project have surfaced, with Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala accusing the state government of a 'secret agenda' to benefit a private company.
The dispute centers on Kerala's decision to halt the project's takeover by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) after the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement with Carborundum Universal expired, despite a previous government order for the takeover.
Chennithala claims the private firm continues generating electricity and selling it at inflated rates, causing financial losses to KSEB while the state confronts a power shortage. No official response has been provided by the Chief Minister or Industries Minister so far.
