In a tragic event on Sunday, two 10-year-old cousin sisters drowned while bathing in a pond in Odisha's Balasore district, according to local police. The victims, identified as Annapurna Mallik and Anyasa Mallik, were residents of Bhuinpada village.
The incident unfolded when the girls went to bathe in the pond at around 11 am and failed to return home. Concerned, the family began a search and found the sisters submerged in the water. Despite being rushed to the Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital, doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
The local authorities have registered a case, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Preliminary assessments suggest drowning as the cause, but further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise events that led to this unfortunate incident.
