Nepal Objects to India's Kailash Mansarovar Route via Lipulekh Pass
Nepal objects to India and China's plan to conduct the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lipulekh Pass, claiming it as its territory. Nepal asserts Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani as its areas, citing the Sugauli Treaty. Nepal seeks resolution via diplomatic means with India and China.
Nepal has expressed objections to India and China's plans to conduct the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Lipulekh Pass, claiming the area as its own territory. Nepal's Foreign Ministry stated that Kathmandu was not consulted in the decision-making process.
The Nepalese government insists that Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal based on the Sugauli Treaty of 1816. Nepal has communicated its stance explicitly to both India and China, emphasizing the need for any activities in the region to have its consent.
Nepal has previously requested India to stop activities like road construction and border trade in the disputed areas. While India maintains that the territories belong to it, Nepal's government is committed to resolving the issue through diplomatic channels, relying on historical agreements and maps as evidence.
