In a significant move, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that he will oversee the investigation into the harrowing Narsapur child sexual assault-murder case. This assurance was given to NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule during a meeting on Tuesday.
The Baramati Member of Parliament had earlier met with Fadnavis demanding stringent action against the accused, which has escalated public outrage across the state. Expressing gratitude towards the chief minister and the police system, Sule emphasized public trust in the authorities to deliver justice.
Amplifying the call for enhanced women's safety, Sule urged for effective implementation of the Shakti Act, aimed at protecting women and introduced by the Uddhav Thackeray government. The accused, a 65-year-old man previously acquitted in other molestation cases, has been arrested for the crime committed on May 1 in Pune district.
