In a sophisticated scam unravelled by the police, a digital conman employed a counterfeit 'Truecaller' profile to impersonate an aide of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, defrauding individuals of substantial sums of money. This elaborate scheme was exposed following a complaint by a Congress leader in Uttarakhand.
The scam's mastermind, Gaurav Kumar, hailing from Amritsar, baited senior political figures by offering influential positions or assembly tickets for monetary compensation. Police investigations revealed that Kumar posed as Gandhi's secretary and had been targeting victims across multiple states including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Bihar through this deceptive method.
Police succeeded in apprehending Kumar at a local mall while intercepting a transaction with another target. As the investigation continues, officers are tracking Kumar's collaborators who played pivotal roles in the sprawling multi-state fraud.
