Former spokesperson of the Manipur unit of the Janata Dal (United), Nimaichand Luwang, on Thursday joined the ruling BJP.

Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh and BJP state president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi welcomed the veteran politician at a function held at the state headquarters of the saffron party.

Speaking to reporters, Luwang said, ''I didn't join the BJP for self-interests but to help bring peace and development to the state. My family members will also join the party.''.

Singh extended a warm welcome to former minister.

In a social media post, Singh said, ''His decision to join the BJP reflects the growing confidence in the party's vision of development, good governance, and a stronger Manipur. We remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the people and advancing the state's progress and prosperity.''.
