Maharashtra Flying Squad Cracks Down on Goa Liquor Smuggling

The Maharashtra excise department's flying squad has made a significant seizure of smuggled Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Thane city, valued at Rs 1.43 crore, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb illegal alcohol trade.
On Tuesday evening, officials acted on a tip-off and intercepted a vehicle at the R C Patil Toll Naka on Majiwada Road, discovering it loaded with contraband whiskey bottles manufactured in Goa, which is banned in Maharashtra. Superintendent of State Excise Pravin Tambe confirmed the raid, identifying two individuals taken into custody.
In addition to the alcohol, the team also seized the container vehicle used for transportation, valued at Rs 22 lakh, bringing the total seizure to Rs 1.65 crore. A case under the Prohibition Act has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
