Controversy Over Karnataka MLA Oath Delay: A Constitutional Dilemma

Karnataka Assembly Speaker U T Khader on Wednesday categorically denied allegations of delaying the swearing-in ceremony of D N Jeevaraj as an MLA. Khader clarified that the process strictly adhered to constitutional provisions and procedural rules.

Jeevaraj's victory emerged after a High Court-mandated recount of postal ballots overturned the initial victory of T D Raje Gowda, a Congress leader. The recount arose from an election petition submitted by Jeevaraj, leading to the revision of the electoral outcome.

Addressing the media, Khader reaffirmed that there was no hesitancy in oath administration, emphasizing the need for the review of technical matters before setting an oath-taking date. Amidst claims of political pressure, Khader reiterated his commitment to constitutional responsibilities and the necessity of public trust in democratic institutions.
