Punjab is gearing up for municipal elections with polling scheduled on May 26, as stated by State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhury. The elections span 105 municipal bodies, encompassing eight major corporations including Mohali and Bathinda.
The elections will encompass 2,019 wards, with a voter base of over 3.6 million individuals, out of which nearly 1.8 million are women. The voting process will be facilitated across 3,977 polling stations between 8 am and 5 pm.
Key dates include the filing of nominations starting May 13 and closing on May 16. Scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for May 18, with withdrawals closing on May 19. Security will be tight, with over 35,000 Punjab Police personnel deployed to maintain order.
