Legal Battle Heats Up Between Fast-Fashion Giants Shein and Temu
Shein accuses Temu of copyright infringement, while Temu argues that Shein's claims are designed to suppress competition. This high-stakes London trial is part of global legal strife that could influence platform dynamics, supplier relations, and enforcement of intellectual property rights in e-commerce.
Shein, a prominent online fast-fashion platform, has accused its competitor Temu of copyright infringement "on an industrial scale". This legal confrontation escalated on Monday as the case opened at London's High Court, with significant stakes for e-commerce practices worldwide.
The lawsuit is part of an extensive legal battle between these rising fast-fashion giants. Shein claims that Temu used thousands of its photographs illegally to market counterfeit versions of Shein's own-brand clothing, seeking to leverage Shein's established market presence.
Temu, however, has not only denied the allegations but has also counter-claimed, arguing that Shein is using litigation to unfairly curb competition. This two-week trial in London adds another chapter to their ongoing legal disputes, with further proceedings anticipated next year.
