In a high-stakes meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, key decisions regarding the appointment of the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were deliberated. Alongside the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi participated in the pivotal discussion held at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The meeting was aimed at finalizing the successor of CBI Director Praveen Sood, whose term concludes on May 24, 2026. Although the discussions were lengthy, no official statements were released, leaving the public speculating on the outcome.
It is reported that the decision could be made public soon, as several prominent IPS officers, including Parag Jain, Shatrujeet Kapoor, Yogesh Gupta, GP Singh, and Praveer Ranjan, are being considered for the eminent position. This selection is pivotal as the CBI is currently involved in numerous sensitive cases of significant political interest.
