Sweeping Electoral Roll Revision Initiated Across India

The Election Commission unveiled a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, set to commence on May 30, covering 16 states and three union territories, as a part of a phased approach. The initiative aims to update electoral rolls extensively, ensuring accuracy and inclusion across key regions.

Regions such as Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, and Uttarakhand are on the list, alongside union territories like Chandigarh and Daman and Diu. However, for areas like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, the roll-out will be contingent on weather conditions in snow-prone areas, as stated by the EC.

This significant exercise will see participation from over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers, tasked with door-to-door verification of 36.73 crore electors. The revision process has already been completed in states including Bihar, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, among others, with a special revision in Assam.
