West Bengal Tightens Animal Slaughter Regulations

The West Bengal government has introduced stringent rules to regulate animal slaughter, banning it without a mandatory 'fit certificate' from the relevant authorities.

In compliance with the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act of 1950, the guidelines respond to orders from the Calcutta High Court, issued in 2018 and 2022. It emphasizes that slaughtering animals in public is strictly prohibited.

Authorities will evaluate the animal's age and health before approving any certificate. Violations may lead to a fine, imprisonment, or both. Kolkata Police aims to enforce these rules to ensure no unauthorized or inhumane practices occur.
