An operation against illegal sand mining in Bihar's Nawada district led to the injury of a police officer during a raid, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Nagendra Kumar sustained serious injuries after being hit by a tractor driven by a suspect attempting to escape. The incident occurred in the village of Kesariya, falling under the jurisdiction of Nardiganj police station, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Nardiganj police station SHO Aditya Kumar briefed reporters, stating that a team conducted the raid following intelligence reports on illegal activities. A suspect disregarded officer Kumar's orders to halt, instead striking the officer and abandoning the tractor. Kumar was quickly taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Patna Medical College and Hospital. Authorities have detained six individuals so far and have formed a Special Investigation Team to further investigate and apprehend those responsible.
