The National Commission for Women (NCW) has raised a red flag over reports of an alleged gangrape of a woman aboard a private sleeper bus in Delhi. Prompted by the disturbing case, the NCW has given the city police a week to submit an action report.
The incident in question involves a 30-year-old married woman who reportedly faced a horrific attack on May 11 while returning home from work in the Mangolpuri area. Officials have arrested the bus driver and conductor, believed to be behind the assault, echoing memories of the infamous 2012 Nirbhaya case.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has called on the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure swift and firm action in this case. The commission has requested comprehensive details, including the FIR, status of the investigation, and safety measures for women traveling in public and private transport, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced protection of women against grievous crimes.
