An Indian-flagged commercial vessel was attacked near the coast of Oman, leaving its 14 crew members unscathed, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday. The attack occurred on Wednesday and the perpetrator remains unidentified.
The MEA condemned the assault as 'unacceptable' and expressed gratitude to the Omani authorities for rescuing the crew-members. They have stressed the importance of protecting commercial ships and civilian mariners, and called for the preservation of freedom of navigation.
The vessel, bound from Somalia, suffered a fire resulting from the strike, ultimately causing its sinking. Two other Indian-flagged vessels have faced similar fates since the US-Iran conflict began on February 28. This incident underscores the security challenges in the Strait of Hormuz.
