In the wake of a tragic boat mishap in Mathura-Vrindavan that resulted in 16 fatalities, the state has stationed a platoon of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in the region. This strategic deployment aims to ensure rapid response in emergencies, addressing delays previously experienced due to relocation of teams from distant areas.
Shlok Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mathura, emphasized the importance of this decision, stating the availability of a local SDRF team will significantly improve response times during disasters. The officers are specially trained to manage floods, drowning incidents, and other natural calamities.
The deployment serves as a critical safety measure for Mathura's residents and millions of pilgrims who visit annually. The recent incident, where a boat carrying Punjab pilgrims capsized in the Yamuna after hitting bridge pontoons, underscored the necessity for enhanced local disaster management infrastructure.
