In a significant judgment, a special court in Nagpur has sentenced two men to five years of rigorous imprisonment for making threat calls to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Convicted by Additional Sessions Judge Anil Kumar K Sharma, the duo faced charges under the Indian Penal Code and the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Jayesh Pujari and Afsar Pasha, notorious for their criminal backgrounds, were found guilty of demanding Rs 100 crore, threatening violence, and affiliating with outlawed organizations. The men were imprisoned in Karnataka when they allegedly made the threat calls, demanding money in exchange for not carrying out their threats.
Following an extensive probe, authorities uncovered links to banned outfits such as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and evidence of misconduct within prison walls. The case was further complicated by Pasha's alleged connections to Lashkar-e-Taiba and involvement in training operatives for past attacks. A third suspect remains at large.
