A rape survivor in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, faced an ordeal as she waited nearly five hours for a medico-legal examination at the district hospital. The examination delay came after she lodged a complaint against her uncle, who allegedly raped her on a Wednesday night.

The sub-inspector, Usha Jawarkar, who accompanied the survivor, reported that despite prior notification, the duty doctor was tardy. The civil surgeon, Dr. Sushil Dubey, finally intervened to expedite the process and assured that the examination would be conducted without further delay.

Under section 184 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, it's mandatory for medical examinations to be performed promptly. Dr. Dubey confirmed that a female doctor was instructed to proceed immediately after he was contacted. An investigation is underway, and strict action is promised for any found negligence.
