In a significant crackdown against illegal firearms, the police along with the SWAT team raided and dismantled an illegal arms factory in Meerut's Phalawda town, Uttar Pradesh. The raid resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of several country-made weapons, unfinished pistols, and tools allegedly used to manufacture firearms.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar announced that the operation took place early Friday morning at a disused sawmill near Balram Farm House, following a tip-off about ongoing illegal activities. The arrested individuals, Mazhar and Mohammad Asfi, were caught in possession of .315 bore pistols and various firearm-making equipment.
While the operation was largely successful, another suspect named Sabir managed to evade capture, with police efforts still ongoing to apprehend him. A case has been filed under the Arms Act, and officials indicated that Mohammad Asfi has a history of legal troubles, previously charged under the Electricity Act.
