Drone warfare has emerged as the most lethal threat in Sudan's ongoing conflict, with both the national army and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) employing drones supplied by several foreign nations, experts indicate.
The United Nations' human rights chief, Volker Turk, reports that armed drones are now the leading cause of civilian fatalities, accounting for over 80% of conflict-related deaths.
Turk and others have called for preventive measures against the transfer of drone technology to Sudan, where these devices have already killed at least 880 civilians within a few months. Recent attacks, including those on Khartoum International Airport, have further strained peace efforts.
