Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, was arrested over charges related to the POCSO Act, say police reports. The arrest followed a nationwide lookout notice and recorded statements from the victim and her mother, the complainant. The victim's statements were documented to maintain their integrity during the trial.

Kumar insisted his son cooperate with the authorities. He stated, via social media, that Bageerath voluntarily approached the Telangana Police for investigation, committing to uphold the law. Legal representatives for Bageerath highlighted evidence of his innocence and believed the case would soon be dismissed.

In contrast, despite applying for anticipatory bail, Bageerath wasn't granted interim relief by the Telangana High Court. Further, Bageerath accused the victim's family of extortion, emphasizing emotional and financial pressures inflicted upon him. Political tensions rose as TRS President K Kavitha demanded ministerial accountability from the Prime Minister.
