An anti-corruption organization in Madhya Pradesh has called for an in-depth investigation into land acquisitions by senior IAS and IPS officers around the planned Bhopal Western Bypass. The System Parivartan Abhiyan (SPA) alleges the project is manipulated to provide financial gain to officials.
SPA President Azad Singh Dabas has requested Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to cancel the 35-km infrastructure project, arguing its alignment has unfairly benefited bureaucrats. Land purchased by officials in 2022 for Rs 5.5 crore now values between Rs 55-60 crore, following project approval in 2023.
The SPA criticizes the necessity of the bypass, citing Bhopal's existing Eastern Bypass. Allegations indicate that officers acquired land under family names, some constructing buildings unlawfully. The SPA demands a thorough investigation and cessation of the bypass project to avoid waste of public funds.
