The West Bengal government has initiated a significant overhaul of security protocols for several high-profile individuals, including political leaders and former officials. After a thorough review, the authorities have downsized the security arrangements, citing updated threat perception analyses, official sources confirmed on Sunday.
Notable figures such as Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, whose security was scaled back, were affected by the latest round of rationalization. This move comes after a change of guard in the state, leading to adjustments in protective measures for politicians like Kalyan Banerjee and Rajeev Kumar, both Members of Parliament, and others including the former minister Arup Biswas.
The state government has emphasized that security will correspond to the individual's current constitutional or official status, ensuring no disproportionate measures are maintained. However, security provisions for former chief minister Mamata Banerjee remain robust, underscoring her unchanged protective status.
