In a harrowing incident highlighting the curse of dowry demands, a 24-year-old woman, Deepika, died after allegedly jumping off the terrace of her marital home in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The police have arrested her husband and father-in-law following allegations of persistent dowry harassment.
The tragedy unfolded on a somber Sunday night, prompting Deepika's family to file a formal police complaint. According to the report, the deceased had earlier informed her father, Sanjeev Nagar, about the harassment during a tearful phone call. She reportedly suffered due to demands for a Toyota Fortuner SUV and an extra Rs 45-50 lakh.
Authorities were informed by Deepika's in-laws that she had fallen from the roof. However, upon reaching the hospital, her father found Deepika deceased. Legal procedures include charges against seven persons present during the tragic incident, emphasizing an ongoing issue of dowry-related violence in the region.
