In response to the escalating West Asia crisis, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant announced on Monday a strategic shift for the judiciary, urging high courts to embrace online hearings on Mondays and Fridays to lessen unnecessary costs.
This measure follows a directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoting reduced expenditures. On May 15, the Supreme Court resolved to transition to video conferencing for cases, with judges also agreeing to implement carpooling to optimize fuel usage.
This innovative plan received accolades from senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, who commended the seamless integration of technology in court procedures, and was supported by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Kant encouraged high courts to adopt these practices for enhanced efficiency in the judicial system.
