In a move to fulfill electoral promises, Kerala's newly instated UDF government announced a slew of welfare initiatives on Monday. Key measures included free travel for women in KSRTC buses starting June 15, and increased payments for ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

Speaking at the first Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister V D Satheesan emphasized the importance of respect and care for elderly citizens, announcing a new dedicated department for them—a first in the nation. Additionally, he affirmed support for the financial plights of ASHA workers, whose protest led to a monthly honorarium increase.

The Cabinet also revealed the establishment of a Special Investigation Team to reexamine a controversial case involving the previous Chief Minister's security detail. The move comes after prolonged inaction despite a court directive for a case review. This step, according to Satheesan, is in line with following judicial instructions.
