Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0: A New Era for Water Supply in Andaman & Nicobar

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration is taking a significant step towards water sustainability by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jal Shakti ministry. This agreement aims to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, a transformative rural water supply initiative.

In a bid to establish a transparent and community-focused model, the MoU was signed by Swati Meena Naik from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Sachin Shinde, commissioner-cum-secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The signing was attended by prominent figures including Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil.

Patil emphasized the mission's deep penetration into rural areas, presenting it as a people-centric movement that enhances health, dignity, and quality of life, particularly for women and rural communities. Lieutenant Governor D K Joshi noted the effective utilization of the allocated budget for the mission's initial phase by the island's administration.
