Transforming Water Supply: Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 Expands in Andaman-Nicobar & West Bengal

In a move to enhance rural water supply infrastructure, the Centre has signed reform-linked agreements with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and West Bengal under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The initiative seeks a gram panchayat-led and community-based model to ensure water access across India.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil praised the Andaman and Nicobar administration for achieving 100 per cent rural tap water coverage, marking a significant milestone with 'Har Ghar Jal' certification. He emphasized the importance of maintaining financial transparency and urged the administration to efficiently reconcile ongoing projects.

Focusing on West Bengal, Patil encouraged rapid progress on the mission, highlighting historically underserved districts like Darjeeling and Purulia. The need for strict adherence to Jal Jeevan Mission guidelines was stressed, alongside the transfer of water infrastructure responsibilities to local committees.
