Indian national arrested with a huge amount of gold and foreign currency

An Indian national has been arrested from a district near the Nepal-India border along with a huge amount of gold and foreign currency, authorities said.

Param Pathak was arrested from Kakarbhitta of Jhapa district on Monday.

He was carrying the illegal item and foreign banknotes, according to the police.

The police have confiscated from him 570 grams of gold, amounting to Rs 14.43 million, USD 20,000, Indian bank notes of Rs 85,410, two mobile sets and various documents.

The police have also recovered an Indian Aadhar card, a Visa Card, a Vivo Mobile phone, a Samsung Mobile phone, a hard disk and a SIM card.

Pathak was arrested during a regular security check as he was crossing the border in a vehicle carrying illegal banknotes and gold.

It is illegal to carry more than Rs 25,000 Indian banknotes in Nepal. The police have initiated further investigation into the matter, taking him into custody.
